Pretty much every professional I have worked with has uttered the phrase “I need to go fax this.” For the last few weeks I’ve been enjoying using Scanr, a new web application that allows you to e-mail photos from your mobile phone directly to another user.

In addition to sharing images, the system can OCR text from cards to auto-populate a contact or lead system, or it can share them via the web/e-mail. All you need is a 1+ megapixel camera on your phone. This means you can take snapshots of business cards, whiteboards, documents, or even popular news articles to share with your team.

I have actually been doing this trick of technology half-way with my digital camera and cell phone. Now I can get quick and easy access to my documents without having the need to run to a fax machine.

I suggest all professionals take a look at the system and figure out how it can streamline workload for them. I give it a 4 out of 5 rating on the usefulness scale, which will probably be bumped up to a 5 out of 5 when they add in a few extra features.
